Are you thinking of St Polycarp Church? Roughly opposite the Hilton, not always open, very ornate inside. It’s the church in Izmir that most people visit when they do the 7 churches of Asia tour. There’s a picture of the interior here:http://www.sacred-destinations.com/turke…
It has claims to be the oldest surviving church in Izmir but only dates from the 17th century, however the saint after whom it is named dates to the 1st/2nd century so that may be where you get that date from.
Hope this helps. If not can you give more info, eg Catholic/Anglican/Orthodox, location in the city etc etc? I know many of the churches in Izmir.
